Big Tobacco companies once owned Kraft-General Foods and Nabisco. Their formula for designing products to be addictive and strategies for marketing them to children crossed over into Big Food.
What can you do?

Avoid ultra-processed food which are high in sugar, fat, salt, additives, preservatives, and high fructose corn syrup.

Check labels: stick to foods with recognizable ingredients (names that you can pronounce!)

Eat whole foods, fruits, and veggies

Go plant based! Take meat and dairy out of your diet.​

Food deserts are where there is a lack of access to healthy foods, fresh fruits, and vegetables. Food deserts are placed in low-income communities and disproportionately affect people of color.

Ultra-processed foods (packaged snacks, sweetened drinks, fast food, frozen meals, breakfast cereals, processed meats, pre-packaged desserts, etc.) have been linked to health risks, including cardiovascular disease, type 2 diabetes, cancer, and obesity.

Big Food companies engineer hyperpalatable foods (high in fat, sugar, sodium, carbs, artificial colors, and chemical additives) which trigger the reward center of the brain, creating an addictive product.

Marketing a highly processed, unhealthy, CHEAP food to consumers, which can also be addictive, increases their profits.
